Description

The Atlantic Saunas Traditional Hanko is much the same as The Snug, only slightly bigger. It is a 2 to 3 person traditional sauna that offers an authentic Finnish sauna bathing experience. With a simple set up and operation, this unit is an ideal addition to any home. Using an 4.5KW Harvia stove heater and lava stones, the user can control the heat and humidity of the sauna, and savour that familiar aroma of hemlock wood and the sizzle of the water as it evaporates on the stones. These charms cannot be replicated with an infrared pad, and it is important to understand the differences between a traditional and an infrared sauna.

Infrared (IR) saunas are not considered to be true saunas by most Finnish sauna societies as they do not use heated air. They were created to meet the demand for saunas in the US, where a combination of insufficient power supplies and strict flue regulations make it extremely difficult to install a traditional wood-burning sauna (US appliances run on 110 volts, UK appliances on 220 volts and European ones on around 400 volts). The heat of an infrared sauna is usually kept between 50oC and 60oC, with no humidity unless a separate steam generator is added. The result of this is much longer, milder, and usually drier heating sessions compared to what you would experience in a traditional sauna.

Both infrared and traditional saunas offer established clinical benefits for cardiovascular disease, rheumatoid diseases, chronic fatigue and pain. They both have positive influence on exercise performance, skin moisture barrier properties, and muscle recovery. However, due to the distinct arrangement of heat and humidity, only the traditional sauna provides protection against memory diseases such as dementia and Alzheimer’s, risk of pneumonia, arterial stiffness and respiratory disease. Traditional saunas have been found to offer psychological and lifestyle advantages that have been unmatched by other sauna types. In a global sauna survey, relaxation and stress reduction, mental health improvement, socialisation, and enhanced sleep were the primary reasons most people chose to bathe in a traditional sauna. With the intermittant cold plunge, pleasant feelings of dissociation and relaxation are evoked from a strong rush of endorphins.

Infrared saunas will always be cheaper than traditional ones and, though this is an appealing factor, it is likely that the mass-produced materials used in their construction will have been unethically sourced. Traditional sauna companies use properly heat and moisture treated woods, usually from Finland, where laws and regulations are stringent and the highest standards are assured. Traditional saunas require expert knowledge on design, build, insulation and ventilation, whereas infrared saunas tend to come flat-packed and ready to be assembled, with no need for specialised knowledge or skill. Worthy of note is that the majority of commercial saunas in hotels and spas are traditional, as opposed to infrared, for the aforementioned advantages.

The Atlantic Saunas "The Snug" is another sauna worth considering. It has a compact design for maximum efficiency, fits 1-2 people, and is designed for your home. The Atlantic Saunas "Hanko" can accommodate up to 2 -3 people. To upgrade you sauna you may also be interested purchasing the Atlantic Sauna Curve Chair, this would compliment your sauna nicely.

FAQ

Are they easy to assemble?

Yes, it should take about 45 minutes. We provide you with an easy to read ‘step by step’ manual. The Hanko Sauna arrives flat packed in 5 boxes, this also makes it easier to take with you if you ever decide to move house. All wall sections are made to fit together precisely, this ensures that our saunas are very rigid and have a solid construction. Tools are also included at no extra cost.

Does the Sauna require any ventilation or plumbing?

The sauna cabin is self-venting and requires no plumbing. There is a sliding vent to control the exhaust of hot air and the unit stands off the floor on 4 cleverly designed supports so no further venting is required and your floor remains protected.

Is it difficult to assemble the sauna in a restricted area such as a loft or basement?

Atlantic saunas are supplied flat packed for assembly on site. Providing you can get the panels through any loft door etc. there will be no difficulty to assemble the cabin. By using advanced Far Infrared technology a sauna can be installed in any room (even on carpet) and only requires a standard 13 Amp plug socket. Unlike old style steam saunas there is no need for venting, special wiring or special flooring. Your spare room, conservatory, garage or any spare space can become a centre for relaxation and wellness.

Can the sauna be used outdoors?

Only if installed in a garden building such as a summer house or a shed. Please check out outdoor range of saunas

Do you offer an installation service?

Yes we do offer installation, however this is an extra service. As our saunas are packed flat, they are transported and moved around the home easily, they are easily assembled and include clear simple instructions. This means that we do not charge you extra for things you can easily assemble on your own. So for his reason most of our customers choose to do this job themselves. If you would like to add assembly to your order please contact customer services.

How much clearance is required?

We recommend a clearance of 15cm from the roof of the sauna. This means that we would recommend installing the sauna with a minimum height of 205cm.
